The general information set out below provides an over view of most of the regular activities of our parish do please feel free to drop into any of them and see if you would enjoy them or have something to contribute to their development.

Baptism

Except in the case of emergency, arrangements for Baptism are made during a preparation course for parents. Please contact Sister Mary for details.

Children are normally baptised together in a service arranged with a number of families.

Marriage

Before making any arrangements or setting a date for your marriage please arrange to the meet Father Derek who will provide information on the detailed preparations necessary.

Children’s liturgy

for children aged from three years old takes place during the first part of the Sunday morning Mass.

Children come into Mass at the start, and if they wish after the opening greeting go into Marian House with their leaders and then return to parents half way through Mass.

Parish music

The Sunday morning choir and Sunday evening singers welcome new members - just go up into the choir loft after Mass and ask for more information.

Please note we have a choir who sing at Weddings and Funerals, which welcomes new members.

The housebound

Our Special Ministers take Holy Communion to housebound parishioners each week.

If you become housebound or hear of someone else please tell Deacon Ray.

Hospital admission

If you are admitted to Hospital please make a point of telling staff that you are Catholic.

If you would like the Catholic Chaplain to visit, or a Eucharistic Minister to bring Holy Communion please tell a member of staff.

When you or members of your family are admitted to hospital please tell Fr Derek so that the parish can pray for you.

Sacred Heart Bereavement Support Group

This group which meet in Marian House on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.15 pm is open to all who have experienced a bereavement or who may have something to contribute to the care of the bereaved.

The group welcome people from all religious traditions and none.

Friendship Club

All are welcome to join in this afternoon for more senior local people on Mondays at 2.00 pm in the Small Hall.

Bingo

In Sacred Heart Hall. Cash Bingo Monday and Friday at 7.30 pm and Family Prize Bingo Second Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm. New Helpers are always welcome!

Journey in Faith Group

Tuesdays 7.00 pm in Marian House. This is a group for people who are considering becoming Catholics - all welcome.

The Legion of Mary

Meet every Wednesday at 9.30 am in the sacristy.

Bible Alive Group

2.00 pm every Friday in Marian House. This group is open to all for a gentle exploration of the Scriptures.

Sacred Heart Snooker Club

Meet in the Youth Club as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday 1.00-5.00 pm and 6.30-10.00 pm
  • Friday 1.00 to 5.00 pm
  • Saturday 6.30-10.00 pm.

Youth Club

Meet on Fridays during term time at 7.00 pm for Young People aged 10 to 14.

The Ladies Guild

Meetings at 9.30 am after Mass in Marian House on first Tuesday of each month - new members always welcome.

Tea Dance

At 1.45 pm in Sacred Heart Hall every second Thursday.

If you do not dance come along anyway and enjoy the music, good company and refreshments to check the date of the next dance telephone Fr Derek.

Sacred Heart School

Provides a Catholic education for the children of our parish and beyond.

Parishioners are asked to support the school however they can but most of all by sending their children to it - please have their names listed at School as soon after birth and baptism as possible.

The Headteacher Mrs Carol Walker, telephone number 816083, is always delighted to respond to enquiries.

Syro Malabar Catholics

On each second Thursday at 7.00 pm Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart in Malayalam the language of the people of Kerala in South India many of whom have moved to Teesside in recent years and in their native land belong to the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church.

Polish Catholics

Mass is normally celebrated on the last Sunday of each month at 3.00 pm in the Polish language and is followed by a short social gathering in Marian House.
