A Diverse Parish

A Parish of many colours

Every week at the Sacred Heart Church in Middlesbrough over 25 countries come together to make up the congregation at the Church. We have worshippers from countries as diverse as Lebanon, Poland, Lithuania, China, Russia and Congo. The Parish Priest, Fr Gerard Robinson pictured with the children from the Sacred Heart School, and flags from the different countries, said : ”Over the past 6/7 years our parish has changed with a huge influx of lots of nationalities. We feel our diversity can enrich us and make us into a better community”.

To show how diverse the community really is Fr Gerard organized a Sunday Mass with all the children from their countries carrying the flags that represent their nationality, it was impressive to see all the young people process into the Church with their flags and stand on the Sanctuary, the colour was fantastic.

Fr Gerard said, “unity in our diversity is what it is all about, we share and learn from each other in prayer and devotion it is wonderful to be a Priest of such a mix of people. Although we are many and from different cultures, we are one.”
